The Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) has flagged off the rehabilitation of 653 kilometers and the patching of 18,850 square meters of road across the country before the commencement of the 2024 yuletide period.
Speaking during the flag-off in Kano, the Managing Director and FERMA Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Dr Chukwuemeka Agbasi said the programme is designed to improve the journey time experience of commuters on the roads and more importantly reduce traffic congestion during the festive period as well as to prevent uncalled for accidents.
“We do know that during the festive period that there is a lot of traffic from the north to the south or from the south to the north. So the essence of this program is to identify the areas we have bottlenecks within the corridors before the movement of commuters commences. It is designed to ensure the hitch-free movement of commuters.
According to him the flag-off at the commencement of the work tagged, “Operation connect to your destination” has a set target, “Also, in terms of what to be done and what to be achieved, we have set a target. At the completion of this program, it is expected that about 18,850 metres square will be patched, over 12,000 areas of failed section to be recovered, 2,700 meters square of overlay will be done and 653 kilometres of the road will be made movement friendly and more importantly, over 12,000 Jobs will be created which will have a huge impact on unemployed economy, he said.”
Similarly, FERMA Director, west operations, Engr Agboade Adewumi revealed that the initiative demonstrates the agency’s commitment to ensuring safe and seamless travel for all Nigerians during the upcoming yuletide season.
