The House of Representatives Alex Mascot Ikwechegh who allegedly assaulted an Abuja-based bolt driver Stephen Abuwatseya on Wednesday appeared before the Chief Magistrate Court Kuje, Abuja charged with assault and threat to life of the driver.
The e Inspector General of Police is prosecuting Ikwechegh who represents Aba North/South Federal Constituency on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
The court, presided over by Judge Abubakar Umar Sai’id, however, granted N500, 000 bail to the lawmaker, and adjourned the matter to November 8.
Ikwechegh, however pleaded not guilty, as his lawyer, Ody Esq, made an oral application for bail, which was granted by the judge with the following conditions: bail set at N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The court said the sureties must live within the court’s jurisdiction and provide utility bills as proof of residence, the Court directed.
Ikwechegh last Sunday assaulted a bolt driver whom he accused of disrespecting him.
The lawmaker slapped the driver thrice and threatened he could make him disappear anywhere in Nigeria without anything happening.
