Gunmen in the early hours of Friday attacked four villages in Gwer West local government area of Benue state, killing five people and injuring several others.
Media aide to the chairman of Gwer West, Udam Aondoaseer, has confirmed the incident.
He said three people were also rescued from the assailants with gunshot wounds, while many were still missing.
“So far, five dead bodies have been recovered by security agencies,” Aondoaseer said.
He gave the name those killed as: Mr. Zegeor Ugbakyaa, 70; Mr. Igber Ahungur, 75; Mr. Shagbaor Vershima, 45; Mrs. Halem Ayeeye, 65; and Mr. Avindigh Agîr, 41.
Aondoaseer gave the names of those rescued as: Mrs. Nancy Tyobee, pregnant woman, 30; Mr. Iior Shundan 70, and Mrs. Kwatakpa Kwaghbee, 60.
