Senate President Godswill Akpabio has said there are no plans whatsoever to impeach him. He also denied reports that the operatives of the Department of State Service (DSS) have taken over the National Assembly over the alleged impeachment moves by senators.
Earlier in the day, a media section published reports that the DSS operatives had been deployed to NASS premises over impeachment speculation against Akpabio.
Mr Akpabio told his colleagues during plenary on Wednesday that his attention had been drawn to the report which he described as fake.
Akpabio said that fake news was gradually taking over the media space.
“There is no limit to what online publications cannot do. This is total fake news and the impeachment of principal officers did not arise and we are all here in the National Assembly without any controversial issues.
“I learnt that they could click an AI and news will start trending to drive traffic and I am sure the traffic for this fake news is massive by now,” he said.
He has asked the Committee on Special Duties to investigate the matter and report their findings to the Committee of the Whole within 24 hours.
