The Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) will be hosting the first Revenue Assurance summit with the Internal Revenue Services of all the States of the Federation, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
As the central national authority responsible for the receipt of financial reports, analyzing the reports, and producing actionable intelligence, the NFIU supports a broad range of competent authorities to carry out their mandates to ensure the national and economic security of the country. The NFIU has in the last three years taken the strategic step of extending this support to sub-national revenue authorities.
A statement from the Strategic Communications Office of the NFIU states that Unit is currently working with the Revenue Agencies of over 20 States and the FCT aimed at improving their revenue profiles. Information available to the NFIU indicates that the partnership is yielding tremendous results.
The statement remarked that Summit is organised in recognition of the importance of domestic resource mobilization to providing subnational governments with resources necessary to provide physical and social infrastructure that promotes growth, development and prosperity.
According to the statement, “The inaugural summit is intended to provide a forum for the NFIU to engage with all State Internal Revenue Services and the Joint Tax Board on the most effective use of financial intelligence to boost revenue collection”.
