Nigerians have criticized Senate President Godswill Akpabio over his comments urging them to help themselves wherever they find free food.
In a viral video on social media, Mr Akpabio was seen presiding over a plenary of the Senate saying: “Times are difficult, wherever you see free food, please endeavor to avail yourself.”
Senators in the plenary were heard in the video laughing following the remark by Akpabiao.
An X handler, @shanwatche, said: “These guys are not aware of the plight of the citizens. This is sad. You impoverished the people and admonished them to become beggars?”
Another user, @ManOfNumvers: said “They are causing them hardship and making fun of them at the same time. And Nigerians are keeping quiet.”
“They are comfortably laughing while millions of Nigerians suffer,” another X handler, @X6Blade: wrote
Similarly, @ekejo: said “He’s making use of the Nigerian situation while Nigeria is feeding and catering for him and his family free of charge.”
Nigerians have been facing hardship following the withdrawal of fuel subsidies and the several increase in the prices of petrol and the devaluation of the Naira.
This has in turn caused spiraling in the prices of goods and services making life very difficult for the majority of Nigerians.
