A tragic accident on Saturday morning claimed the lives of seven passengers on the Saminaka-Kaduna highway at Hayin Gada.
The crash occurred around 10 a.m. when a J5 Peugeot, registered TRN 861XL 08 AA, collided with a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle. Responders from the FRSC Pambegua Unit Command and local vigilantes arrived at the scene shortly after at 10:05 a.m. to find all seven passengers dead.
FRSC Sector Commander Kabir Y. Nadabo confirmed that initial investigations indicated the crash was due to wrongful overtaking and excessive speed. The Peugeot, carrying five passengers, collided with the Bajaj, which had no registration number, resulting in the deaths of both the motorcycle’s driver and passenger.
Nadabo reported that the Peugeot driver, Abdul Shakur Adam, lost control, leading to the fatal collision. The bodies were taken to General Hospital Pambegua, where they were pronounced dead.
Expressing his condolences, Nadabo lamented the significant loss and noted that the Pambegua-Saminaka route is generally regarded as one of the safer roads in Kaduna, with few accidents reported due to ongoing reconstruction efforts.
He urged drivers to avoid night travel, excessive speed, and overloading, particularly as the ember season approaches, emphasizing the importance of seatbelt use.
