With goals from Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford, and Christian Eriksen in a 7-0 Carabao Cup victory over Barnsley, Manchester United achieved their greatest victory under Erik ten Hag.
As the Red Devils began their pursuit of a third title under the Dutchman, their focus was on League One opponents on a night when some Premier League clubs kicked off their Champions League campaigns.
At Old Trafford, United easily defeated Barnsley in the third round with to dominance from the start. Garnacho, Rashford, and Eriksen doubles added to Antony’s penalty kick. Since taking over in 2022, this was by far Ten Hag’s biggest victory to date. His finest results came from 4-1 wins against Chelsea in the Premier League and Real Betis in the Europa League.
Summertime acquisition Ten Hag made eight changes, including the addition of academy product Toby Collyer, who led the Under-21s to triumph against Barnsley 28 days prior, and Manuel Ugarte to their first United starts.
After being used as a temporary left-back, midfielder Collyer was occasionally singled out by the Tykes in the first half. He gave up a couple of free kicks that the visitors were unable to capitalize on.
