A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Yunus Ustaz Usman, SAN is dead.
He was 67.
The Kaduna Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) announced his passing with deep regret earlier on Wednesday.
In an official notice, the Chairman of the NBA Kaduna Branch, Godwin O. Ochai, Esq., expressed profound sorrow at the loss of Usman.
The Kaduna NBA branch expressed pain over the death of the prominent lawyer.
Ochai said “Yunus Ustaz Usman, SAN, was a distinguished and respected member of the Bar, known for his exceptional legal expertise, professionalism, and contributions to the development of the legal profession in Nigeria.
“We pray that Allah grants him eternal rest, forgiveness, and admission into Al-Jannah Firdaus. May He also comfort and strengthen his family, the Bar, and loved ones during this difficult period.
“The Kaduna Bar will miss his wisdom, expertise, and contributions. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.”
Born on November 15, 1957, in Ogbogodo Village, Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, Usman’s life was marked by extraordinary achievements and an unwavering commitment to the law.
He is the Principal Partner of the law firm Yunus Ustaz Usman (San) & Company with offices in Kaduna and Abuja.
The late SAN would be remembered by many Nigerians especially the down trodden for his interventions in their individual lives. He was in the habit of coming to the side of indigent students who could not pay their school fees as well as picking the medical bills of many patients held hostage due to their inability to pay hospital bills.
He was called to the Nigerian Bar on July 30, 1983, beginning a legal career that would see him rise to the pinnacle of the profession. In recognition of his legal acumen and service, he was conferred with the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), becoming the fifth person from Northern Nigeria to achieve this honor.
He was the first black lawyer to address the University of Brighton in its history lecture series where he delivered a keynote address in 2016. The address focus on the administration of justice in Nigeria.
His remains would be laid to rest at the Unguwar Rimi cemetery in Kaduna after a funeral prayer for him after the Asr prayers at the Sultan Bello Mosque also in Kaduna.
