The Kano state command of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) revealed that the insinuations in some sections of the media purporting that inmates in the custody of Kano state are not properly fed and catered for are insinuation and reports that can be described as unfortunate and intended to tarnish the good reputation of the command.
This was contained in a statement issued and signed by Public Relations Officer Kano state command Superintendent of Corrections Musbahu Lawan K/Nasarawa. According to him, inmate’s welfare has been a top priority and as such proper taking care of the inmates has never been compromised.
“The command wishes to inform the general public that inmates’ welfare is a top priority, and that the command always ensures that they are properly taken care of, even in the face of the present economic situation. The public is aware that the Federal Government recently carried out an upward review in the feeding rate for inmates, thereby improving their wellbeing, “he said.
He further explained that the service is ensuring that inmates are not only properly catered for, but also are empowered in educational and vocational skills acquisition training for their smooth reintegration back to their various communities.
“The command wishes to enjoin the public to discountenance such reports as they are not true and targeted towards misinforming innocent members of the public. The general public is further assured of the command’s resolve to ensure that the human rights of inmates are protected and promoted.” He concluded.
