The Kano State government has restored the boarding status of 15 girls’ secondary schools in the state.
The schools were changed from boarding to day by the immediate past administration in the state.
Bature Tofa, spokesperson to the state governor, Abba Yusuf, said in a statement on Monday that the governor made the announcement during an unscheduled inspection of Government Girls Secondary School, in Albasu Local Government Area of Kano State.
The governor expressed dismay over the de-boarding of the girls’ school, adding that it resulted in halting the academic pursuit of many talented girls.
He instructed the Ministry of Education to, as a matter of urgency, post English Language, Mathematics and Natural Sciences teachers to the school.
The governor said rehabilitation work had already commenced for the schools to resume academic activities in the next school calendar.
He said the state government would not relent in building and rehabilitating more classrooms and equipping them for a conducive atmosphere for teaching and learning in schools across the state.
Yusuf restated his administration`s commitment to implementing the full components of the declaration of a state of emergency on education in the state.
