The Kaduna State Police Command has apprehended a notorious gunrunner and an informant, while also thwarting a kidnapping attempt and rescuing two farmers in Kuriga village.
In a statement issued on Monday, the command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, detailed the operations. On August 14, 2024, at around 6:00 p.m., Anti-Kidnapping Unit operatives intercepted two male suspects armed with a fabricated AK-47 rifle at Madaci Village, Zaria.
The suspects, identified as Abulaziz Habibu (25) and Nuhu Thomas (25), both residents of Dogon Dawa, Birnin Gwari L.G.A., admitted to their involvement in the illegal arms trade, supplying weapons to notorious bandits in the Zaria area.
Their confessions have provided significant leads, and they are cooperating with the police to identify and capture their accomplices.
On the same day, at approximately 8:00 a.m., the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Tafa Division, acting on reliable information, led a team to Gidan Abeh Village, Kagarko LGA, where they apprehended Abubakar Yahuza, a 36-year-old local. Yahuza confessed to acting as an informant for kidnappers operating in the Gidan Dogo Forest.
Additionally, on August 18, at about 6:30 a.m., officers from the Police Mobile Force (PMF) in Kuriga responded to gunfire heard on the village outskirts. They encountered two armed men on motorcycles attempting to abduct two farmers.
A brief gunfight ensued, causing the bandits to flee and abandon their captives. The rescued farmers, who sustained head injuries, were treated at the Kuriga Primary Health Care Center and have since been discharged.
Commissioner of Police CP Audu Ali Dabigi praised the officers for their effective work and encouraged the public to support the police by providing credible information to aid in the ongoing fight against crimes.
