Four residents of Kwarau village in Igabi Local Government Area, Kaduna State, have been electrocuted on Saturday.
The incident, which occurred around 6:40 a.m. while many were still asleep, involved a high-tension power cable falling onto a local transformer. The resulting surge of electricity caused widespread damage and fatalities.
The victims have been identified as Malam Saminu, Sani and two others while the injured individuals are being treated at an undisclosed hospital.
Mohammed Rabi’u Kwarau, the councilor for Kwarau Ward, confirmed the deaths to newsmen on Saturday.
He urged the authorities to address recurring electrical issues in the area.
Similarly, the village head, Umar Rufai, called the incident unfortunate and requested compensation for the affected families, emphasizing that the tragedy occurred due to issues beyond their control.
He also noted that the high voltage damage spared the community from a potential fire outbreak.
