Windstorm have reportedly destroyed unspecified number of houses in some villages across Shagari and Wamakko local government areas of Sokoto state.
Our reporter learnt that some of the houses were completely destroyed.
The Director, Disaster Management in the Ministry for Social Welfare and Humanitarian Affairs, Umar Isa whole confirming this to newsmen, said that, 50 households were affected.
“The disaster rendered 50 households homeless.
“Some of them are now staying with their relatives and there are some who relocated to another places.
“We are still assessing the situation in order to know the exact number of people displaced and other damages made by the disaster,” he said
Isa said they had contacted National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) which asked them to officially write the sister agency in the state and copy them.
The Director however, denied knowledge of any flood disaster in the state against the prediction by Nimet.
“But the ministry is embarking on vigorous campaigns against flooding, especially in areas where the disaster was experienced in the past,” he added.
