Senator Ali Ndume (Borno, APC) has been removed as the Chief Whip of the Senate.
Ndume has been replaced with a fellow party man, Tahir Monguno who represents Borno South Senatorial District.
The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, announced the decision after many of the senators supported Ndume’s removal during plenary on Wednesday.
Ndume’s removal was sequel to a letter from the APC National Chairman and the Secretary, Abdullahi Ganduje and Bashir Ajibola respectively, which Akpabio read during plenary.
The letter asked the Senate to remove Ndume because of his “unguarded utterances” that are “against the Federal Government.”
The APC leaders accused Ndume of being “someone who is bent on dividing the country” and as someone who is not putting the country in a better position in the international community.
The party nominated Monguno as replacement to take Ndume’s position in the Senate.
Akpabio, after reading the letter, asked the senators to vote and they overwhelmingly voted in support of Ndume’s removal.
Thereafter, Akpabio ordered the Sergeant at Arms to lead Monguno to the seat of the Senate Whip at the front row.
It would be recalled that Ndume last week said President Tinubu has been “caged” in the Presidential Villa, adding that some forces were preventing well-meaning people from physically discussing the truth with the President.
He claimed that the situation did not allow the president to know that many Nigerians are hungry.
