Bandits have released two journalists – AbdulGafar Alabelewe and
Abduraheem Aodu – kidnapped in Kaduna last week.
Alabelewe of The Nation newspaper and Aodu of the Blueprint newspaper, were kidnapped last week with their families
from their residences at Danhono 2, Millennium City.
It was not clear whether ransom was paid or not.
The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Council Chairman, Asma’u Yawo Halilu, confirmed their release in a statement issued on Saturday.
Halilu said, “To the glory of God Almighty, our colleagues Abdulgafar Alabelewe, Abduraheem Aodu and their families have been released. The Council extends her profound gratitude to the office of the CP, Kaduna State Command, office of the NSA, the DG, DSS, the Inspector General of Police, Kaduna State government, the NUJ President and all well-meaning Nigerians that prayed along with us during this trying time.
“We will soon announce when they will join us in Kaduna so that we could visit, rejoice and glorify God with them,” she added.
