Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has sworn in new caretaker chairmen for the 23 local government areas of the state.
The governor inaugurated the new caretaker chairmen hours after the House of Assembly, led by factional Speaker, Victor Jumbo, screened and confirmed the nominees.
Those sworn in include Madigai Dickson, Abua/Odua LGA; Happy Benneth; Ahoada East LGA; Ahoada West LGA; Otonye Briggs, Akuku Toru LGA; Reginald Ekaan, Andoni LGA; Orolosoma Amachree, Asari Toru LGA; Alabota Anengi Barasua, Bonny LGA; Anthony Soberekon, Degema LGA; Brain Gokpa, Eleme LGA; David Omereji, Emouha LGA; Etche LGA, John Otamiri, Kenneth Kpeden, Gokana LGA and Darlington Orji, Ikwerre LGA.
Others are Marvin Yobana, Khana LGA; Chijioke Ihunwo ,Obia/Akpor LGA; – Princewill Ejekwe, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA; Evans Bipi Ogu/Bolo LGA; Princess Ogan, Okrika LGA; Promise Reginald, Omuma LGA 20; – Enyiada Cookey-Gam, Opobo/Nkoro LGA; Gogo Philip, Oyigbo LGA; Ichemati Ezebunwo, Port Harcourt LGA and Matthew Dike, Tai LGA
Governor Fubara had forwarded their names to the state House of Assembly on Tuesday and were invited for screening as early as 8am on Wednesday, according to a statement issued by the Clerk of the House, G.M. Gillis-West.
The nomination came after former council chairmen refused to vacate their offices after their tenure expired, thus adding another twist to the political feud between former governor of the state now FCT Minister Nyesom Wike
The first set of 12 chairmen were sworn while the other 11 followed at the Executive Council Chambers of the Government House in Port Harcourt, the state capital, amid tight security.
