The reinstated Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, on Sunday, hosted a Sallah Durbar to celebrate the Eid-el-Kabir, in defiance of a police order banning the ceremony in the state.
The police had a few days ago, banned the Durbar, a traditional horse parade ceremony hosted by emirs, saying it was in the interest of peace in the state.
However, after the Eid prayer which he led at the Kofar Mata Juma’at Mosque alongside Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf due to rain, Sanusi II proceeded to Gidan Shettima Palace at Kofar Kwaru were he conducted a mini durbar.
After praying the two-unit prayers behind Emir Sanusi II, Governor Yusuf urged the people of Kano to remain calm and peaceful while going about their lawful businesses.
The governor, however claimed that the police in the state did not consult him before taking a decision to ban the colourful durbar activities in the state.
Meanwhile, in furtherance of the kingship tussle in the state, the dethroned Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero and Sanusi II led separate Eid el-Kabir prayers in separate prayer grounds in the state.
While Sanusi II led the prayers inside the Kofar Mata Juma’at Mosque, Bayero prayed at the Nassarawa Mini Palace Mosque.
