Some units of soldiers have been deployed to the Nasarawa mini palace purportedly to protect the deposed Emir of Kano Aminu Ado Bayero.
This is coming about an hour after Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf ordered the immediate arrest of the former Emir Bayero.
Former Emir Bayero had moved to the Nasarawa Palace, a mini palace in the ancient city after his return in the early hours of Saturday, where he was received by a mammoth crowd.
While the new Emir Muhammadu Sanusi, moved into Gidan Rumfa, the main palace.
Subsequently, Governor Yusuf, in a statement released in the early hours of Saturday, accused the former emir of “creating tension in the state.”
This is coming barely 48 hours after the governor sacked Emir Bayero and four others and reinstated deposed Emir Muhammadu Sanusi on Thursday. Mr Sanusi was presented with an appointment letter on Friday.
The statement was signed by Governor Yusuf spokesperson Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
The arrest order was coming about two hours after the former Emir Bayero retired to the ancient city to the warm embrace of a mammoth crowd.
The Kano governor claimed that “the former Emir was smuggled into Kano city last night in an attempt to forcefully return to the palace two days after being deposed by the Governor.”
The statement said the new Emir Sanusi “arrived at the palace in the company of the Governor, the Deputy Governor, the Speaker of the State Assembly, and other top government functionaries at about 1:00 a.m. on Saturday, 25th May 2024.”
The statement said, “As the Chief Security Officer of the state, His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has directed the Commissioner of Police to arrest the deposed Emir with immediate effect for disturbing public peace and attempting to destroy the relative peace the state enjoys.”
