The immediate past Emir of Kano Aminu Ado Bayero has returned to the ancient city amidst fanfare.
He returned in a private aircraft at the early hours of Saturday where he was received by a mammoth crowd, it was learned.
The monarch was dethroned on Thursday by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf after assenting to the repealed Kano Emirates Council bill.
The repealed bill was passed hours earlier by the NNPP-controlled Kano State House Assembly, that abolished four other emirates created by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje in December 2019.
Mr Bayero was outside the state on official engagement when his sacked was announced and he was replaced by former Emir Muhammadu Sanusi.
After signing the new law, Governor gave all the dethoned emirs 48 hours to vacate their palaces and hand over to the Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, who is the deputy governor.
The governor issued a reappointment letter to Sanusi on Friday and he led Jumat prayers at Government House, Kano.
However, in the early hours of Saturday, Mr Bayero returned to Kano to a crowd of supporters.
The aircraft which conveyed the monarch touched down at the Aminu Kano International airport at 4:30 am.
He was immediately thronged by his supporters, who were chanting verses from Surah Al-Fatihah in the Holy Qur’an.
You (alone) we worship, and you (alone) we ask for help (for each and everything).”
While some others were saying, “God the Almighty will punish your enemies.”
The former emir, who was fully dressed in royal regalia, did not respond to the crowd as he took his steps consciously.
He later observed Subhi (dawn prayer) at the airport.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE reports that when Mr Ganduje sacked Sanusi in 2020, he was banished to Nasarawa State. However, Mr Sanusi challenged his banishment in the court and won. The court said the banishment of deposed emirs was against the Nigerian laws.
Subsequently, Mr Sanusi relocated to Lagos state, and visited Kano from time to time.
