The former Governor of Sokoto State, Attahiru Bafarawa, has told President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other political leaders to wake up and save the current situation in the country.
Speaking on the general outcries over the current hardship in the country, Bafarawa said “Nigerians are suffering.”
“Leaders have to wake up and save the situation, otherwise the consequences that will come they cannot save it.
“They need to fear God and remember they will die one day and give account of their deeds before the Almighty Creature,” he said
He attributed the high costs of goods to the security challenges in the north which has displaced many farmers.
“Take for instance, in my own hometown of Bafarawa people seek permission from bandits to go to farm.
“It is the bandits that even allocated farms to them,” he said.
According to Bafarawa “I used to have a farmland which is over 10,000 hectares in Birnin Gwari of Kaduna State. I have been cultivating that land since 1979 but I cannot reach there now because of the bandits.
“The maize I produced that time is in commercial quantity, I used part of it for my flour mill which is also out of production.
“The issue of insecurity is behind the high cost of food items because many farmers have been displaced.
“There was a time I warned the federal government about the impending food insecurity in the country but my advice was ignored,” he said
He called for genuine collaborative efforts between the federal, state and the local governments to tackle security challenges, particularly in the north.
“The state governments cannot do it alone without the support of the federal government,” he said
