Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum says 18 people were killed and 21 injured in Tuesday’s Boko Haram attack in Damasak, a town in Borno State, on the Nigeria/Niger border.
Zulum made the confirmation when he visited the town, where he spent the night from Thursday to Friday.
The governor held a meeting with security forces and presented 12 security vehicles, comprising an armoured personnel carrier and 11 patrol vehicles to strengthen the security forces to fight the insurgents.
The UN humanitarian hub, private residential houses, a police station, palace of the district head, a primary healthcare centre, and a GSM village were among property destroyed in the insurgents’ attack on Tuesday.
The insurgents attacked the town with three gun-trucks.
Tuesday’s attack on Damasak was the sixth in two weeks by the Boko Haram/ISWP groups, residents said.
