A burrow pit has caved in killing seven Qur’anic pupils and wounding one other at Bayan Science, Badariya area in Birnin Kebbi local government area of Kebbi State,
The proprietor of the Qur’anic School, Malam Dan-Umma, said the seven pupils died on the spot while another one was hospitalised as a result injuries from the accident.
He said the burrow pit collapsed and buried the victims while collecting laterite sand.
“I assigned them to go on top of the hill near the school to excavate clay and gravels to mend the holes inside their rooms against the upcoming flood. In the process, I was told a heavy chunk of the laterite fell on them.
“I immediately rushed to the scene of the incident where I confirmed seven of them were dead and one other who survived was rushed to the hospital in Birnin Kebbi,” he stated.
According to Malam Dan-Umma, the remains of the seven deceased pupils had been taken to Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital in Birnin Kebbi before taking them to their parents for burial.
