Bandits targeted local traders in Maraban Agyaro village of Kakangi Ward, in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna state, killing approximately four local vigilantes.
The attack occurred on Thursday afternoon as villagers were returning home after closing from the local weekly markets in Birnin Gwari town.
21st Century learned that the attackers assaulted the vehicle carrying the traders from the market, abducting the driver along with others, including women.
The assailants set fire to seven motorcycles and seized five others during the attack.
Contacted Ishaq Usman Kasai, a former Chairman of Birnin Gwari Emirates Progressive Union, confirmed the incident on Friday.
He reported that locks saw security fighter jet around the area to search for the attackers.
Kasai stated that the traders were ambushed by the bandits as they returned home around Maraban Agyaro, under Kakangi ward, resulting in the deaths of approximately four vigilantes.
“The car driver conveying the traders was among those abducted. But we don’t know the exact number of the abductees yet. Seven motorcycles were burnt by the attackers, and they took away five other motorcycles,” he said.
State Police Command Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansur Hassan, when contacted stated that security personal have been deployed to the community with the hope of apprehending the criminals in the area.
