At least 69,828 pupils have written the 2022 National Common Entrance Examination for admission into the 110 Federal Government Colleges across the country.
Last year, 76,855 candidates sat the federal secondary schools entrance examination.
The over 69,000 pupils will complete for the 3,000 available vacancies across the 110 federal secondary schools across the country.
Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu disclosed this on Saturday when he led some senior ministry and National Examination Councils officials to monitor the examination in some centres in Abuja.
The minister, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mr David Adejo, said of the 69,000 who sat the examination, 36,855 were female while over 32,000 were male.
On his part, the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, NECO, Prof. Ibrahim Wushishi, said, “Lagos State registered the highest number of candidates with 19,516 candidates, while the least registered state is Kebbi with 74 candidates – they had 37 males and 37 females.”
In 2021, of the 76,855 total number of pupils that wrote the examination, Lagos had the highest number of candidates with 21,423 candidates followed by FCT, 8,674 candidates, Anambra 5,738 and Zamfara had 4,865 while Taraba had the least registered number of candidates with 113.
The official data also showed that the number of girls that registered for the examination was 39,555 while a total of 37,300 male candidates registered for the examination.
