Not fewer than 56 people have been hospitalized following the consumption of poisonous drinks in Gwangwan, a community 136 kilometres from Kano city, in Rogo local government area of Kano State.
A resident of the village said victims vomit and urinate blood.
A Councillor representing the community in the local government council, Muhammad Tukur, told journalists that six areas within the village were affected and about 56 persons have contracted the ailment since the outbreak last week.
He said only one person has died from the disease, which is yet to be known.
He said people of the community spent huge amount of money without cure from the disease., adding that the people were completely devastated.
The councillor said the disease was beyond what the local clinic could handle, hence the victims were taken to Rogo Hospital for treatment.
However, an official at the state’s Ministry of Health said the ministry received a report of the outbreak, but only four persons were affected and have since been treated.
