At least 558 people, including 50 children, have been killed and 1,835 wounded in Israel’s fierce bombardment of various parts of Lebanon, according to the Lebanese Health Ministry.
Lebanon’s Hezbollah fired a barrage of missiles at Israeli air bases in response as world leaders and the United Nations called for urgent de-escalation
Israel, meanwhile, has continued its attacks on the Gaza Strip killing at least 12 Palestinians across the besieged territory over the last 24-hour reporting period.
Lebanon’s Health Minister Firass Abiad told a news conference in Beirut on Tuesday that the death toll has risen to 558, including 50 children and 94 women. This refutes Israel’s claims that they have been targeting Hezbollah fighters.
Abiad said at least 1,835 people were wounded, and 54 hospitals are treating the patients, adding that four paramedics have been killed and 16 others ounded.
He said this is a time of war, and emergency plans have been activated, adding that the government has agreed to provide financial support for those affected.
The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has warned that Israel’s expansion of the conflict aims to “divert global attention from the war of extermination and displacement” against the people of Gaza.
As attacks on schools and shelters continue in the Strip, Israel is working to “isolate our people” and “commit more mass crimes,” the ministry said in a statement on X.
While not mentioning Lebanon, it said Israel was attempting to shift the attention of the media elsewhere and called for renewed international efforts to end the war.
