Over 50 passengers, including school children, have been killed in board mishap on the Bagwai River in Bagwai local government area of Kano State.
The children were said to be traveling from Badau village to Bagwai town for an Islamic event.
Spokesperson of Kano State Police Command, Abdullahi Kiyawa, who confirmed the incident said it happened on Tuesday evening.
He said seven of the passengers have been rescued, while others were still missing.
Kiyawa said a rescue mission, involving local fishermen, fire service officials, and the police, had begun.
He said the boat was reported to be overloaded with over 50 people.
