Between January and November 2024, road accidents in Kaduna State have resulted in 484 fatalities and left 2,327 individuals injured, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

Kabiru Yusuf Nadabo, the Sector Commander of the FRSC in Kaduna, revealed these figures during a briefing to launch the Ember Months Campaign on Tuesday.

He compared the current statistics with those from 2023, where 467 people were killed, and 2,877 were injured in road crashes across the state. Nadabo also noted a reduction in the number of vehicles involved in accidents, with 514 vehicles recorded this year compared to 719 in 2023.

Despite the decrease in the number of accidents and injuries, the number of deaths in 2024 has risen slightly compared to 2023. The sector commander expressed concern over this, particularly pointing to a major crash on Saminaka Road, which contributed to the high toll.

He also highlighted a decrease in the total number of people involved in accidents, from 6,057 in 2023 to 4,979 in 2024—a 19.1% reduction in injuries, which he termed a significant achievement.

The FRSC is focused on raising awareness during the Ember Months with new strategies, including town hall meetings across Kaduna’s three senatorial districts and visits to motor parks. Officers will engage the public, stressing the importance of passenger involvement in ensuring driver safety, particularly regarding speed limits.

He said Passengers must realize their role in ensuring drivers adhere to safety guidelines, adding that It’s vital to make the roads safer as we head into the festive season.
