Four bandit leaders in Katsina state have unconditionally renounced violence and surrendered sophisticated weapons, the state Police Commissioner, Sanusi Buba, has said.
Speaking during a press briefing on Thursday, Buba said the bandit leaders surrendered two General Purpose Machine guns, one AK 49 assault rifle, 23 AK-47 assault rifles, 109 GPMG ammunition.
Other weapons surrendered include: ninety five 7.62mm live ammunition of AK -47 rifle and forty five rustled cows.
He said the state command acted on the directive of the federal government to “clamp down on bandits until they are either arrested, neutralized or surrendered.”
Buba said the command met with four bandit leaders in the state after which they decided to unconditionally surrender their weapons.
Those who surrendered were, Sale Turwa, Mani Turwa, Ado Sarki and Sani Mai Daji.
