Security operatives have arrested 30 suspects link with the recent killings and kidnapping of traditional rulers in Imo State.
The suspects were arrested during a raid on Monday by a joint security team on criminals hideouts in Orsu local government and Uli community in Ihiala local government area of Anambra state.
A traditional ruler, Acho Ndukwe of Ihube autonomous community who was kidnapped on Sunday in Okigwe local government area of Imo State was also rescued during the raid.
Imo state has been plagued by activities of gunmen in recent times
On Sunday, December 12, gunmen abducted two traditional rulers in Imo State, and set ablaze their palaces and vehicles.
The traditional rulers Acho Ndukwe of Amagu Ihube and Paul Ogbu of Ihitte Ihube, both in the Okigwe local government area of the state, were abducted around 1am in their places.
The incident came three days after gunmen killed and dumped, at the market square, the body body of traditional ruler of Atta kingdom in the Njaba local government area of the state, Edwin Azike.
Azike was abducted on Thursday in his palace on December 9.
On October 19, gunmen invaded meeting venue of traditional rulers in Nnenasa, Njaba local government area of Imo state, killing two monarchs.
The slain monarchs are Eze E. Duruebere of Okwudor autonomous community, and Eze Sampson Osunwa of Ihebinowerre autonomous community.
