Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has imposed 24-hour curfew in the state following the violence that greeted the protest against hunger.
This brings to three the number of governors who have imposed similar measures to tem violence in their states.
Earlier, both Governors Mai Mala Buni of Yobe and Umara Zulum of Borno imposed 24-hour curfew in their states.
Yusuf announced this at the Government House on Thursday, saying “After careful consideration, we have come to terms that 24 hours’ curfew should be put in place to further prevent looting and vandalisation of businesses and killing of innocent citizens.”
He has directed all security agencies in the state to fully enforce the order compliance with the directives to ensure restoration of peace in the state.
“However, I urged the protesters to conduct themselves in a peaceful and orderly manner and I expressed my intention to receive their complaint and assured them that their grievances would be forwarded to Mr. President for possible attention. Our goal was to facilitate a constructive dialogue and address the issues raised by our fellow citizens,” he said.
