Anambra State Deputy Governor Nkem Okeke on Wednesday defected from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This is coming 24 days to the keenly contested November 6 governorship election in Anambra.
The deputy governor announced his defection at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, after meeting President Muhamamdu Buhari.
Buhari presented the APC flag to Okeke in the presence of acting APC national chairman Mai Mala Buni and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma.
APGA is the ruling party in Anambra state.
Anambra State Governor Willie Obiano, had recently alleged that members of APGA in the state House of Assembly were induced to join APC.
The governor said some of the lawmakers were given N100 million each to defect.
“Any time, any day, there’s no other party in Anambra. Only APGA, there’s no APC,” he had said.
“Those people that went to APC, they went to collect money because they saw the additional money, N100 million each, they are still APGA, they are giving us information on what is happening in APC.”
The governor also accused the APC and Attorney-General of the Federation Abubakar Malami of trying to destabilise the state by mulling emergency rule.
