A 21-year-old drug addict, Muhammed Yusuf, has allegedly beaten his 70-year-old father, Alhaji Ibrahim Yusuf, to death at St. Mary Primary School area in Lokoja, Kogi State.
Spokesperson of the state Police Command, Williams Aya, said the incident happened Wednesday night.
He said the suspect was arrested after one of the deceased neighbours reported the matter to the police.
A neighbour, Bello Nana, told journalists that the suspect had taken to drugs after completing his secondary school education.
She said she found out the suspect had killed his father when she came back from work around 10pm on Wednesday.
She said she became suspicious when she found the suspect coming out from his father’s room, which was rare.
“Knowing that Baba does not allow the boy to enter his room, I became suspicious of what he was doing there and I immediately called my fiance,” Nana said.
“We called Baba’s phone number but it was switched off. We then went to the police to lodge a complaint and came back to the house with policemen.
“When we entered the room Baba was lying in a pool of blood still breathing, that was how we rushed him to the hospital. This morning, we heard the news that Baba is dead.”
The police spokesperson said the body of the deceased was deposited at the mortuary for autopsy.
