The 21 almajiri pupils abducted Friday night by bandits have been released.
Bandits were said to have blocked Gusau – Funtua federal highway at Kucheri area of Tsafe local government in Zamfara state and abducted several people in five vehicles.
Most of the vehicles attacked by the assailants were loaded with passengers.
A statement by the Zamfara police command spokesperson, Mohammed Shehu, on Saturday said some of those abducted have been rescued.
He said when he received the information that bandits have blocked the road, a team was sent to engage the gunmen.
“The police operatives succeeded in rescuing 21 kidnapped two children including two female who were coming from Rini village in Bakura area of Zamfara state to Katsina state for Almajiri Islamic school. Along with their schoolar, Lawali Ibrahim and the driver of the vehicle were among the victims that are currently in captivity,” the statement said.
