Female politicians aspiring to contest for political seats in 2027 general elections have sought for the support of Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda in getting greater inclusion.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE reports that several women have declared to contest for political offices in both the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) and African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the state. Most of those who have declared intent are seeking for tickets to contest for seats in both the National and State Assemblies.
Leader of the Reserved Seat for Women Movement, Zainab Tafashiya led women groups and aspirants to meet the governor on Tuesday to seek for support.
Zainab Tafashiya said women’s demand for reserved seats was not for dominance but fairness.
“We are not asking for leadership takeover but for representation,” Tafashiya said.
In his response, Radda reaffirmed his administration’s strong commitment to strengthening women’s participation and inclusion in politics and governance across the state.
The governor described women’s inclusion in politics as a key pillar of democratic growth and effective governance, stressing that his administration remains committed to ensuring equal opportunity for all.
“Our great party has provided the mandate and opportunity for women to freely contest for positions. This is a clear demonstration of our commitment to inclusivity and equal participation in the political process,” the Radda noted.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE reports that though Radda has appointed at several women into executive council positions including two commissioners and several special advisers, there is no single elected female politician from the state.
