The anointing of Senator Uba Sani by Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State to succeed him is undemocratic and coercive, a Kaduna-based legal practitioner Barrister Mark Jacob Nzamah, has said.
Nzamah who is a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in the state, said the anointing has set the All Progressives Congress (APC) on the path of losing the governorship seat in the 2023 election in the state.
Barrister Nzamah, made the declaration in an interview with 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE, saying el-Rufai would be lucky if other aspirants in the ruling APC will fully submit to his preference “otherwise that would be the beginning of failure” for the party and Uba Sani.
Nzamah, who was Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice during Ahmed Makarfi’s administration said. he respects the capacity of el-Rufai to be bold, adding that his non-decisive with his supporters can be interpreted as undemocratic or coercive.
Nazamah said, “It is often the practice for sitting governors to pretend not to have a preferred candidate even when their actions proclaim otherwise. However, Kaduna State electorate will determine whether this exercise of boldness is appropriate or not.
“It is one thing to impose your preference on a political party and another to convince the electorate to support your preference. He would be lucky if other aspirants in the APC willfully submit to his preference.”
According to Nzamah who is an advocate of power shift and exponent of zoning, the APC will not succeed in the state in 2023 elections.
