Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the South-West, have failed in their bid to secure a consensus agreement which would produce a presidential candidate from the zone.
It was gathered at the stakeholders meeting which held in Lagos, that none of the presidential aspirants agreed to step down for another.
The meeting was conveyed by the former governor of Ogun State chief Olusegun Osoba and the former governor of Osun State chief Bisi Akande.
The aspirants from the zone struggling for the party’s ticket include former Lagos State governor Bola Tinubu, Vice president Yemi Osibajo, Ekiti State governor Kayode Fayemi, Senator Ibikunle Amosun amongst others.
A report by the PUNCH quoting a source in the meeting, said the consensus issue was stylishly introduced by one of the leaders.
It was learnt that the meeting asked if the aspirants from the zone could still step down for one another if they realised that the zone would be defeated at the party’s presidential primary slated for the end of the month.
But none of the aspirants is ready to step down for the other.
The leaders then cautioned the aspirants to guard against their utterances.
The meeting also resolved that name calling and other personal attacks should not be encouraged by the aspirants and their supporters.
The aspirants were asked to work with whomever among them emerges as the party’s candidate and also ensure that the South-West does not lose the opportunity to produce the President in 2023.
