Leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, has alleged that some political leaders in the North are sowing discord among southern politicians so as to retain power in 2023.
Speaking during the Greater Nigeria Conference (GNC) in Abuja, Adebnajo said it wasn’t the intention of the North to yield power, adding that the agitation against zoning by some northern politicians was part of the plan to truncate power shift to the South.
The elder statesman has been canvassing for the Igbo presidency and has repeatedly called on presidential aspirants from the South West to shelve their ambition.
He said, “Let’s tell Nigerians where it should be and stop deceiving ourselves. We are now at a crossroads. My position is to say it as it is.
“The North does not want to yield power and the only thing they know is to divide the South so that they can have power in 2023. They want to divide the South West first. Now that it is the turn of the South East, they (North) are now talking of competence, merit.”
