The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Niger State has zoned the 2023 governorship ticket to zone A.
The Special Adviser on Politics and Strategy to Governor Abubakar Bello, Mohammed Uma Kolo, who disclosed this to newsmen in Minna, also said the deputy governorship position was zoned to Niger East.
The party’s position came a day after reports alleged that Governor Bello may have jettisoned the existing zoning system in preference for an anointed successor.
Bello through his media aide, Mary Noel-Berje had earlier denied that her principal has preferred successor even as she said that the zoning system is intact.
Bello said “I don’t have idea of what they are talking about. As a loyal party man, I am bounded by the APC’s modus operandi, in which case, its the party in the state that has the responsibility to decide how my successor will emerge and not me.
“No one single-handedly gave me the party’s ticket before my emergence. My candidature was a product of a transparent and fair party process. So, it is only fair that I allow the party to do its work.”
Kolo said the party’s caucus has met and zoned the governorship position to Niger south in line with the existing power rotation arrangement.
He said, “All the party positions currently held by Niger East will go to Niger North and those occupied by Niger North will be reversed to Niger South.”
