Twenty persons were killed in different road crashes in Kogi, Ogun and Oyo States.
In Kogi state, the accident involved an articulated vehicle which killed for persons, while the accident in Ogun caught fire and burnt 16 passengers to death while two more were burnt in Oyo filling station.
The Kogi FRSC Sector Commander in Kogi, Samuel Oyedeji, said over speeding and brake failure caused the accident which occurred around 7.20 pm on Monday, opposite the Produce, Falele along the Lokoja-Okene Road, where the truck crashed into the concrete road divider.
Oyedeji said those wounded were rushed to the Honey Gold Hospital for treatment while the remains of the dead were taken to the mortuary of the Federal Teaching Hospital Lokoja.
In Ogun State, where 16 passengers were burnt to death, the accident occurred at the Buhari Estate along the Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway on Tuesday, involving a white Mazda bus registered as KJA 949 YJ.
She attributed the crash on a fire outbreak in the vehicle, saying the bus, which was conveying 21 passengers, also had a filled gas cylinder in it, leading to an explosion.
Okpe said the wounded were taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Idi Aba, Abeokuta while the corpses are still at the scene waiting for evacuation.
In Ibadan on Tuesday, two persons lost their lives in an explosion that occurred at the Orita Challenge outlet of Gabstab Mega Petrol Station in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Yemi Akinyinka, who confirmed the incident, said a petrol tanker driver and his motor boy were burnt beyond recognition.
He said preliminary investigation revealed that the tanker driver lost control as a result of a brake failure, which resulted in the tanker spilling its content, thereby catching fire in the process.
