Three doctors have been found guilty of various offences and barred from medical practice in Nigeria by the the Medical and Dental Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal.
The tribunal also suspended 12 other doctors for professional misconduct.
The tribunal looked into cases of misconduct between 2019 and 2020.
The Chairman of the tribunal, Dr Abba Hassan, said while delivering the ruling of the panel on Thursday, that the three doctors barred from practicing medicine have had their names erased from the medical register.
Hassan also said that the 12 doctors suspended from medical practice were suspended for a period ranging between three and six months.
He gave the names of the doctors barred from medical practice as: Dr. Yakubu Hassan Koji of Jimeta Clinic and Maternity, Jimeta Yola; Dr. Sunday Elusoji of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital and Dr. Stephen Oludare Alaiyemola of Philndelphia Specialist Hospital, Apapa, Lagos state.
The doctors suspended from practice ranging from three to six months are: Dr. Umaru’ Nasiru Ibrahim of Al Noor Clinic and Maternity, Angwan Rogo, Jos Plateau State, three months suspension; Dr. Nwikwu Mezie Vitalis of De Vital Care Hospital, Oojo Lagos State, six months suspension; Dr. Jamilu Muhammed of Martha Bamaiyi General Hospital. Zuru, Kebbi State, six monlhs suspension; and Dr. Godwin Chukwuma Maduakor-Federal Medical Centre Asaba, Delta state, six months suspension; Dr. Anunobi Chijioke Ralu of Federal Medical Centre Asaba, Delta State, six months suspension.
The tribunal further convicted and admonished five other doctors and discharged nine others whose cases were struck out for lack of merit
