Two security operatives have been killed during bandits attacked on Kabba Correctional Centre in Kogi state.
The assailants freed 230 inmates in the facility during the attack early Monday morning, according to the spokesperson of the Nigeria Correctional Services (NCoS), Francis Enobore.
He said the gunmen attacked a military checkpoint located a few metres away from the correctional centre with heavy gunfire before descending on the prison.
Enobore said a soldier was also injured in the attack.
However, Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, said a special task force has been “activated” to recapture inmates who fled the Correctional Centre.
He said the International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL) has been put on notice to look out for any of the inmates who may attempt to flee the country.
