Two of the 110 students abducted from the Federal Government College Birnin Yauri, Kebbi state have escaped from captivity.
Bandits raided the federal college on June 17, abducting schoolchildren after killing one policeman and wounding others.
An uncle of one of the girls confirmed the story to 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE on Saturday.
He said the girls escaped from the bandits’ camp in the night. “They wandered inside the forest for long until they appeared at a village, which is not too far from Dansadau,” he said.
Dansadau has been the hub of banditry in Zamfara state, with the assailants attacking and abducting civilians almost on daily basis.
He said the villagers took the two students and handed them over to the DPO in Dansadau. The police have brought them to Gusau, the schoolgirl’s relative said.
“The girls have been reunited with their families and they would undergo series of medical checks,” he said.
On July 17, some parents of the abducted schoolgirls raised alarm in an interview with BBC Hausa that the bandits have married off some of their daughters.
They said the bandits called to inform them that that their daughters have been married off.
They said the bandits sent them footages indicating that their daughters were already married.
However, he said the kidnappers were informing them that they did not want negotiate with them but the government.
One of the parents said: “Sometimes they call and give us our daughters to talk to us. If your child has your number then they will call and talk to you, But I have never spoken with my daughter since the time they were abducted.”
He said since the abduction, only about 10 of the schoolgirls were allowed to speak to their parents.
