Zamfara State Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle would formally defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday, his media aide, Yusuf Idris confirmed to 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE on Sunday.
The Tuesday’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would end months of speculations and denials of his alleged move.
Personal Assistant on Digital and New Media, to President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad suggested that Matawalle has already defected to the ruling party.
“So Zamfara is back home! Welcome Matawalle,” Ahmad said in a massage on his Facebook wall Sunday morning.
However, Yusuf, the Director General Media, Public Enlightenment and Communication to Matawalle told our reporter that Yobe State Governor and Chairman of APC Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), Mai Mala Buni would lead 18 members of the Progressives Governors Forum to grace the occasion.
He noted that all arrangements have been concluded for the governor’s defection to APC on Tuesday.
“All the committees that are charged with responsibilities for a smooth transition of the governor have reported from their various committees that things have taken shape for the event which is scheduled to hold at a grand reception in Gusau, the state capital on Tuesday, June 29th,” he said.
He said the governor would be moving with all national and state Assembly members, PDP State executives at all levels, two former deputy governors, Mallam Ibrahim Wakkala Muhammad and Muktar Ahmad Anka.
Also defecting with Matawalle include former Minister of Finance, Ambassador Bashir Yuguda; former All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA)’s national secretary, Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi and former Speaker Zamfara State House of Assembly, Abdullahi Bature Umar Sambo,
He said the venue of the event, the Gusau Trade Fair Ground has been decorated and fortified in preparation for the event.
Mr Matawalle was elected on the platform of the PDP after the Supreme Court nullified the victory of the APC in the 2019 elections in the state due to an internal party crisis.
