About 17 Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) and about 49 other lawyers would represent APC and Yusuf Gawuna as the elected governor of Kano State at the Supreme Court.
The SANs are from all geo-political zones of the country and have resolved to converge at the Supreme Court premises on the day of final judgement.
Senior Advocates of Nigeria Sani Katu made the comment at a news briefing on Wednesday in Kaduna, saying as advocates of the law it’s their responsibility to protect the law.
The Senior Advocate was reacting to a report that about 200 lawyers have resolved to ensure that the NNPP candidate in Kano State wins the case at the Supreme Court.
“We have a Lawyer group with 17 SANs. And about 49 other senior lawyers. I’m trying to limit the number so that it won’t look like a noise making kind of group.
“We are real intellectuals where we discuss legal issues and we proffer solutions. So all these 17 SANs in the group together with the other 49 groups are in support of the judgement as it is being delivered. In fact one other person who was not with us has come back to the fold after carefully studying everything.
“We are with the decision ,judgment that was delivered in an open Court of Appeal, affirming the decision of the lower Tribunal, implying that Gawuna, the Gubernatorial candidate of APC is the person who should be declared as winner of the Kano state election that was conducted. This is our position”.
According to him,the leader of their team is from the South -east who is a prominent Senior Advocate and highly interested in the matter.
He notes unanimous agreement within their group that the court’s pronouncement takes precedence over any other documents in circulation emphasizing their duty as lawyers to protect the legal system.
