Seventeen political parties on Thursday signed a peace accord in Sokoto state.
The parties include the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), among others.
This was a sequel to Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad’s meeting with governorship candidates and leaders of political parties in the state.
The meeting was summoned after a violent Presidential and National Assembly elections in the state.
During the meeting, which was held at his palace, the monarch was said to have appealed to them to shun inciting remarks.
He also advised them to meet and come up with a strong message to their members.
In a joint press conference, the parties called on their members to remain peaceful before, during and after the election.
They also called on the security agencies to arrest and prosecute any of their members found violating the electoral laws during the election process.
They also agreed to accept the outcome of the elections.
