At least 17,000 officers and men of the Nigerian Police and military have been deployed to maintain law and order during the Saturday governorship election in Ekiti State.
This was disclosed by the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Johnson Kokumo, who is in charge of security at the poll.
Addressing newsmen in Ado Ekiti, the DIG said the operatives were not meant to intimidate citizens, while urging the people to be law abiding.
He said the military personnel would deployed at the borders to prevent possible infiltration of miscreants into the state with intent of causing breakdown of law and order during the poll.
He ordered the withdrawal of all policemen attached to VIPs for the purpose of the election.
