A bandit group, known as Turji, has released the 150 villagers and travellers it abducted in Shinkafi local government area of Zamfara State following the arrest of the gang leader’s father by security forces.
The gang leader’s father was arrested by security operatives in Kano about two weeks ago and taken to unknown location.
A source in Gusau, Zamfara State capital told 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE that the people were released Sunday afternoon.
The bandits attacked some villages, including Kurya, Keta, Kware, Badarawa, Marisuwa, Maberaya, and abducted the villagers and travellers along the road.
The source said the bandits leader received his father from mediators on Sunday afternoon, after which he released the abductors.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE reports that the bandits leader had also vowed to stop people from performing the upcoming Sallah, if his father was not released to perform sallah with his family.
