Bandits have killed 15 residents of Dansoda village of Dandume area in Katsina State during a Tuesday attack that residents said lasted for over an hour.
The bandits stormed the community around 11pm on Tuesday, shooting sporadically.
The bandits also set some houses and two shops on fire during the attack.
Residents said the bandits blocked the main entrance and exit of the community with some of the bandits going inside the community to unleash mayhem.
“They (bandits) started shooting from the outskirts which prompted some of us to run outside our houses,” a resident of the community who is now seeking refuge in Funtua told 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE Wednesday morning.
The source said as at 07am Wednesday, 15 people were known to have been killed by the bandits but said the number of those injured would be difficult to say.
“Some of our people successfully ran into the bush with wounds. Others are still stuck inside their houses, so we can’t know how many people are injured or have been abducted until much later. A lot of people have left the community, I’m in Funtua now,’ he said.
The attack on Dansoda village came a few hours after the bandits had stormed Jikamshi community in Musawa area shooting sporadically and prevented residents from breaking their fast.
During the attack, one person was killed while an elderly woman got shot in the leg.
The police public relations officer in the state Abubakar Sadik Aliyu didn’t respond to an SMS and WhatsApp messages sent to him by this reporter. He repeatedly rejected calls and sent back an automated SMS ‘Can’t talk now. Please text me.’
Dandume and Musawa areas are among the local government areas to have entered into a peace deal with rampaging terrorists in Katsina State. Checks by 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE however revealed that the two areas have continued to witness a series of bandit attacks.
